Prehistoric architecture, digital reconstruction and structural analysis: Hut 1 at Posta Rivolta (Foggia)
Roberto Malinconico, Enrico Lucci, Annalisa Treglia
Abstract
This article presents the results of a digital reconstruction of Hut 1 from the Bronze Age site of Posta Rivolta (Foggia), conducted as part of an ongoing doctoral research project. The study employs an integrated methodology combining archaeological data, three-dimensional modelling, and structural simulations to propose a scientifically grounded and verifiable architectural hypothesis. The focus is on the analysis of the wooden framework, developed through comparison with the site of Nola-Croce del Papa and adapted to local archaeological markers. The validity of the hypothesis was tested through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to assess the aerodynamic response of the structure to environmental stresses. Additionally, volumetric calculations of the timber used were performed, with particular attention to the functional distribution of the perimeter posts. The results highlight a coherent and intentional design, compatible with structural and environmental requirements, laying the groundwork for further research and valorisation efforts.
