Dissemination and community engagement across H2IOSC project activities. Introduction to the special section

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the main initiatives carried out by the Rome and Milan research units of CNR-ISPC within the H2IOSC project, highlighting how the work has continued beyond its official completion while contributing to the promotion of Open Science practices in the field of Cultural Heritage/Heritage Science. It outlines the evolution of the digital platforms developed by the Rome unit (DHeLO, BiDiAr, and ArchaeoHub), focusing on the methodological choices underpinning interoperability, Linked Open Data, and FAIR principles, as well as on the role of scientific dissemination in fostering dialogue with the research community. In parallel, it presents the work carried out by the Milan unit on semantic modelling for Heritage Science and digital epigraphy through initiatives aimed at developing shared ontologies, advancing interoperability, and implementing open resources such as H-SeTIS, H/RADIOSA, REMEDIA, and EpiHub. The final section explores the application of Artificial Intelligence and terminological analysis to the project’s scientific output, showing how text mining and distant reading approaches can be used to identify and structure the core concepts emerging from H2IOSC research.
