This paper describes the philosophy of Artificial Adaptive Systems and compares it with natural language, revealing some striking parallels. Artificial sciences create models of reality, but their ability to approximate the 'real world' determines their effectiveness and usefulness. This paper provides a clear understanding of the expectations created by the use of this technology, an evaluation of the complexities involved, and expresses the necessity of continuing with an open mind to unexpected and still unknown potentials.
